Kuwait announced on Sunday the resumption of visas for Pakistani citizens, including family and business categories.
Kuwait resumes visas for Pakistani citizens after ten-year suspension
According to The Express Tribune, this decision was made following a meeting between Pakistani Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid and Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah.
It reported that Kuwait had banned work visas for Pakistan in 2011 and despite previous governments’ efforts, the restrictions remained in place.
In March 2017, the then government had also announced the lifting of the ban by Kuwait during the visit of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to Kuwait. However, the decision was never implemented.
The interior minister said that the ban on Kuwaiti visas has created enormous difficulties for Pakistani families and businesses, noting that Pakistani labor played a critical role in Kuwait’s early development, the Express Tribune reported.
He said that restoring work visas would create new employment opportunities for Pakistanis and would also boost bilateral trade.
