Some Activities still Open during Eid Lockdown

Baladiya also known as Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs of Saudi Arabia last week announced, there will be a 24-hour lockdown and curfew all over the Kingdom during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holidays due to Coronavirus preventive measures to control spread.

How long will the lockdown?

The full lockdown is set to begin on May 23 and end on May 27, depending on when authorities announce the start of the holiday.

Will mosques open for Eid prayers?

Mosques will remain closed for Eid prayers and a muezzin – the person appointed at a mosque to recite the call to prayer – will not be making the Eid takbeerat, which is a special type of call to prayer that is only done during Eid.

Are Eid gatherings allowed?

Gatherings with more than one family who do not live in the same house are banned and gatherings of no more than 5 person allowed. Authorities have urged people to adhere to social distancing measures to prevent the Covid-19 from spreading.

Violators will be fined and penalized.

Will malls remain open during Eid?

Malls and shopping centers will be closed for the Eid holiday. The Ministry of Commerce decision to avoid gatherings.

What will remain open during Eid lock down

The following commercial activities are still allowed to remain open. This is to make sure that people remain inside their home and can still get the essentials and enjoy Eid during lock down.

• Superstores and baqalas will be open for 24 hours.
• Restaurants will be open to operate between 10 am to 10 pm.
• Some pharmacies will be open for 24 hours.
• Stores will be open between 6 am till 3 pm which includes chicken and meat shops, vegetable shops, gas cylinder shops, Service centers on gas stations, and household maintenance.
