Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud issued a royal order on Wednesday marking 11th March of each year to celebrate as National flag Day.

Saudi Arabia Declares March 11 as National Flag Day

The Royal Order stated that dedicating 11th March as Flag Day comes from the value of the national flag that extends throughout the history of the Kingdom since is founding.

While issuing an order to celebrate the Flag Day occasion, King Salman highlighted that, 11th March 1937 AD (27th Dhu Al-Hijjah 1355 AH), is the day when the King Abdul Aziz approved the flag in the form that we see Today, fluttering with its great connotations that refer to monotheism, justice, strength, development and prosperity.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman said that this decision was made in light of the significance of the national flag throughout the history of the Saudi state, which dates back to its creation in 1727 AD (1139 AH).

The sword represents strength, dignity, the height of wisdom, and position, while the flag displays the Islamic statement of faith in the middle, symbolizing the message of peace and the religion of Islam upon which this great state was founded.

The King affirmed his belief in the great importance of the flag as a manifestation of the state, its strength and sovereignty, as well as a symbol of cohesion, coalition, and national unity. “For nearly three centuries, this flag has been a witness to the country’s unification campaigns waged by the Saudi state, and the citizens of this country took from it a banner of pride and elegance, the King said.

The Basic Law of Government of the Kingdom and the Flag Law, according to the King, were both reviewed before the decision was made.
